Mridangam

Course Details

Mridangam, one of oldest percussion instruments known to the mankind, is called as the Deva Vaadhya because of its lineage that dates back to the era of Puranas wherein Nandhi the Holy Bull plays it. Mridangam being one of the most important percussion instruments in concerts today is taught in such a way that the child attains an artistic training for the future. The initial training includes vigorous practices on Layam and Solkattu. The child at later stages of the course is given training to accompany Music and Dance concerts. This is accomplished by giving practice for them to accompany concerts of the Vocal, Dance and other Instrument students of Kendra. Workshops, concerts and lecture demonstrations are an integral part of the curriculum.
